L-R, Peter “Bunny” and an Unidentified Boy at Seething, England, WWII 1945

In memory of Peter.
Lt. James Muenker: "The one on the left is probably the son of the woman who did our laundry. He ate at officer’s mess since he was about 8 years old – peanut butter, powdered eggs & all." He was also wounded in the leg when a German fighter was strafing a B-24 on landing, the fighter didn’t pull up and continued staffing past the runway hitting the boy in the leg who was at his family farm.
“The boy’s name was Peter & we called him "Bunny". We loved him and gave his mom soap and cigarettes neither of which she could buy in England. We also paid her for washing our clothes. He was walking from the barn to his house which was off the end of runway 015 when the ME109 shot the B24 as it was landing and held the firing button down long enough to get Peter in the leg. My wife and I returned to the airbase at Seething, England in 1978 and went to see Peter. He died one year before from a heart attack.
Lt Larry Taylor”

Picture A Day September 21, 2009 – Rural McCulloch County, Texas

Despite being located smack-dab in the middle of Texas (quite literally – this is the geographic center of the state), McCulloch County is surprisingly remote and isolated. Outside of the single ‘city’ of Brady, the remainder of the county is almost completely unblemished by settlements. The second-largest community is Melvin, which in its heyday was a bustling railroad town of nearly a thousand people, but has now withered away to all but a ghost town of fewer than two hundred and only one active business on the edge of town. This shot is on the far northwest edge of town, a sheep ranch in the foreground (one of the staples of the central-west Texas region), hay bales bundled and ready to go in the background.
Oh hi! Are you taking MY picture?

Along A Texas Road

There are so many big old houses here in Texas. The people who built them must have had lots of children to fill them, and to help on the farms and ranches. The one in this picture is small in comparison to some I’ve seen.
